SINGAPORE, 9 January 2020 – MG has made its return to Singapore with aplomb at the Singapore Motorshow 2020. Visitors to the show will be treated to an amazing display of five cars including a classic MG Midget, the E Motion Concept, the fully electric MG ZS EV SUV and the MG HS SUV, as well as the Roewe Ei5 which is a domestic model that is manufactured by SAIC Motor, and badged and marketed as MG5 SW EV in international markets including Singapore.
In October last year, Eurokars Group announced its appointment by SAIC Motor as the official distributor of MG cars in Singapore.
Prior to that, Eurokars Group had set up a new wholly-owned subsidiary – Eurokars EV Pte Ltd – which signed a Distributor Agreement for MG with the Shanghai-based Chinese automotive manufacturer, SAIC Motor Corporation Limited, on 14 October 2019. Eurokars EV Pte Ltd will focus on retailing electric vehicles (EVs) for Eurokars Group in the long term.
The new MG distributorship will offer local consumers an attractive lineup of vehicle models including the MG HS (petrol) and MG ZS EV (electric) which will be available for sale at the Singapore Motorshow 2020 as a start, and will progressively introduce a pipeline of exciting new models in Singapore in due course.
“We believe that MG will be a viable motoring choice of the future among individuals who are environmentally conscious about their carbon footprint and unbound by conventions. Eurokars Group sees the growing demand and popularity of electric vehicles, and an immense potential for sustainable mobility in Singapore. We admire MG’s strong motoring heritage and find its direction for plug-in hybrid and EV technology very relevant to the Singapore market. MG fits seamlessly with our current portfolio, and will enable us to harness burgeoning interest in EVs as well as contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions through the use and adoption of eco-friendly cars,” says Mr Karsono Kwee, Executive Chairman of Eurokars Group.
Eurokars Group is confident that its strategic tie-up with SAIC, coupled with MG’s strong EV vehicle model pipeline, will help to build a strong foothold in the fast-growing EV market, and future-proof and diversify its suite of product offerings.
Along with the display of the MG car models that will be made available for sale in Singapore are the MG Midget and the E Motion Concept. The MG Midget is a classic two-seater sports car that was produced by MG from 1961 to 1979. The E Motion Concept is hailed as an electric sports car which made its premiere at the 17th Shanghai International Automotive Show in 2017. This next-generation concept car embodies MG’s vision for the future, and aims to push the boundaries of innovation and technology while meeting the needs of today’s car buyers.
