SINGAPORE, 14 July 2017 – Eurokars Group will officially launch the All-New Mazda CX-5 through a captivating event that will be held this evening at the Ritz Carlton, Millenia Singapore Hotel. This eagerly-anticipated launch caps another milestone for Eurokars Group as it comes full circle from its launch of the first Mazda CX-5 model in 2012, after it took over the distributorship of Mazda vehicles in Singapore in 2011.

That launch event rolled out the first in a series of new generation vehicles that are fitted with SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and which embody the KODO: SOUL OF MOTION design language, with the promise of up to 30 per cent better fuel efficiency and a whole suite of new safety features in a sleek package.

Since Eurokars Group assumed the distributorship of Mazda vehicles in Singapore, it has raised the profile and spearheaded the amplification of the brand. Last year, Mazda grew by 34 per cent with 7,091 new vehicles registered throughout 2016, according to Land Transport Authority (LTA) statistics. Looking back on the past few years, Eurokars Group has propelled Mazda to grow its market share substantially from 0.9 per cent in 2011 to 8 per cent in 2016, and achieve year-on-year record sales.

Bolstered by its high sales volume and rising popularity, Mazda is now one of the best-selling Japanese car marques in the local market. Mazda now ranks third in Singapore in terms of new car registrations, as indicated by LTA statistics as of June 2017. To meet the rising aspirations of our customers, this leading Japanese automotive brand has also been rolling out new models such as the Mazda CX-3, the enhanced Mazda 6 with G-Vectoring Control and today, the All-New Mazda CX-5 which is hailed as the most premium SUV in its class.

In recognition of its efforts to expand the market share of Mazda cars from less than 1 per cent before it took over the distributorship to 6.8 per cent in 2014, Trans Eurokars Pte Ltd received the 2014 Mazda Distributor Commendation Program Volume & Share Increase Award. Just one year later, it was the recipient of the 2015 Mazda Distributor Commendation Program Ratio Increase Award for achieving 168 per cent growth in 2015.

The synergistic partnership between Eurokars Group and Mazda Motor Corporation was extended to the Indonesian market where PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia, part of Eurokars Group, was officially appointed from 1 February 2017 as the agent and sole distributor of Mazda cars in Indonesia which is well-regarded as one of the most important markets in the region for Mazda. Today, Eurokars Group is the distributor for Mazda vehicles in Singapore and Indonesia, and owns a dealership for Mazda in Perth, Australia.

Mazda’s growth across these markets will be further catalysed by the new developments that will drive Eurokars Group’s expansion into the future. The Head Office of PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia is now based out of the new Eurokars Group Indonesia Headquarters in Southern Jakarta which celebrated its Grand Opening a month ago. That came on the heels of the Ground-breaking Ceremony of the new Eurokars Group Corporate Headquarters at Kung Chong Road in Singapore which took place on 17 May 2017. Targeted for completion by 2020, the future Eurokars Group Corporate Headquarters in Singapore will be sized at 40,000 square feet with a total built-up area of 100,000 square feet.

Furthermore, Eurokars Group is on track to open a new 438,000 square feet facility in Tanjong Penjuru in the Western part of Singapore in 2018. This will serve as an integrated facility for after-sales operations, and serve as a one-stop hub for repairs and maintenance, pre-delivery inspection, body repair and spray painting, as well as warehousing of all the brands under the group. More than 60 per cent of the built-up area will be utilised by Mazda.

The Mazda CX-5 has set the bar high for SUVs since its launch in 2012 which led to instant acclaim, garnering significant worldwide sales and over 100 awards around the world to date. The redesigned Mazda CX-5 is expected to raise the bar and scale even greater heights.

The original CX-5 was the first of a new generation of models that feature Mazda’s brand hallmarks, namely, KODO – Soul of Motion design and SKYACTIV technology, both of which are driven by Mazda’s vision and pursuit of providing all its customers with superior driving pleasure, and outstanding environmental and safety performance.

Just like the first-generation model, the All-New CX-5 also augurs the future direction of Mazda’s vehicle engineering. The design of this latest evolution of the CX-5, both in terms of interior and exterior elements, surpasses that of the original. With the All-New CX-5, Mazda has elevated the car’s driving pleasure and responsive driving sensation, and its sense of comfort and peace of mind for both drivers and passengers alike, to a whole new level. The driving dynamics and chassis design have been greatly enhanced to provide a more refined ride that is insulated against noise, and strengthen the unity between the driver and the car, thus bringing to life Mazda’s trademark Jinba-ittai (horse and rider as one) and human-centred innovation and engineering. The SKYACTIV-G engine and six-speed SKYACTIV-DRIVE automatic transmission have also been improved with better throttle control and responsiveness, further accentuating the Jinba-ittai driving experience.

The new CX-5 further evolves the KODO design language under the theme of “refined toughness” with its bold, muscular and sporty body that is elegant and graceful at the same time. The new CX-5 appears larger than its predecessor although the dimensions remain intact, and distinctly sportier. A wide stance with a low centre of gravity plants it to the ground while lending it a purposeful and defined look. What further sets it apart is the new colour – Soul Red Crystal – which was created by Mazda Design to complement the beauty of the CX-5 form. Soul Red Crystal is the third Takumi (artisan) paint color that is adopted by Mazda, and will eventually be available throughout Mazda’s lineup of cars. This rich and lustrous red adds eye-catching crystalline depth and high gloss to the energetic and dynamic lines of the new CX-5.

The design detail that has fashioned the exterior is evident inside the new CX-5 too. In keeping with the theme of “refined toughness”, and its signature human-centric design approach, Mazda considered every component surrounding the driver and passengers to create a layout that exudes a sense of exhilaration and comfort for all onboard. In line with Mazda’s Human-Machine Interface (HMI), the controls, instruments, steering wheel and shift lever are all ideally placed in relation to the driver’s seat, with the main instrument cluster and steering wheel – now featuring a new ergonomic shape to optimise grip comfort – directly centred on the driver, while the pedals are positioned symmetrically to fall naturally under the feet. Excellent visibility is assured thanks to A-pillars located rearward to offer a broader view of the road.

Like all new generation Mazda cars, the new CX-5 features an Organ-type Accelerator Pedal that is tailored for its application and aids smooth acceleration. Pedals are placed optimally to allow easy transition from one to another. Once seated, the driver is surrounded by soft-touch and high quality materials at every touch-point due to a level of craftsmanship that is uncommon in its class. The sophisticated and refined interior of the new CX-5 features leather seats and metal finishes which combine to create a premium and hand-made feel. The door seals, welds and interior trim are all smoothened so as to meld seamlessly with the car’s fit and finish. Focusing on both functionality and design, high-quality satin chrome garnish is used for sections that guide the driver‘s line of sight such as the power window switches.

And the front passengers are not the only ones to benefit from the redesign. The rear seat adopts Mazda’s first two-step reclining mechanism that allows the seatback to lean back to 28 degrees and enable the rear passengers to find a more comfortable position. CX-5’s rear passengers have access to USB ports available for charging smartphones and tablets. The new CX-5’s 10-speaker BOSE® Premium audio system, which was co-developed by Mazda and Bose, delivers performance, clarity and unparalled aural delight, and provides the “Spirited Sound” experience that Mazda is seeking to implement across its range.

Other notable features include an Active Driving Display that projects information from the navigation system onto the windshield. The display is divided into two zones for clearer view. High-priority vehicle status information and advanced safety information is displayed in the lower section, while information related to the driving environment such as turn-by-turn directions are displayed in the upper section. The new CX-5 also comes with a powered liftgate which employs a compact, lightweight and quiet spindle damper unit. The liftgate opening height is freely adjustable with the touch of a button, and touch sensors prevent items from getting trapped in the liftgate. The newly-adopted auto-hold function in the new CX-5 retains braking pressure when the driver’s foot is removed from the brake pedal after coming to a complete stop, and quickly releases it when the driver takes action to move again. This delivers greater comfort and convenience especially while driving in the city.

Mazda’s SKYACTIV-BODY has earned much admiration for its rigidity and refinement. By increasing the torsional stiffness of the chassis by 15 per cent, engineers of the new CX-5 were able to isolate unwanted road imperfections that would otherwise find their way into the cabin. The chassis stiffness also allowed engineers to revise the suspension to optimise it for greater levels of comfort. Through the use of ultra-high-tensile steel, the new CX-5 comes with significant improvements in body strength. Thicker sheetmetal, in addition to a greater amount of sound suppression material, helps to minimise road and tyre noise. Additionally, it provides a more rigid platform that allowed Mazda’s engineers to focus on recalibrating the suspension, thus refining the driving experience and rendering more precision in terms of body control without compromising handling dynamics. The New CX-5 suspension system uses the MacPherson struts in the front and a multi-link system in the rear. Increasing the diameter of the front damper pistons and adopting liquid-filled bushings for the front suspension suppresses the floating sensation that is experienced by the driver and the unpleasant vibrations all cabin occupants feel when the vehicle is subjected to roll.

Equipped with Mazda’s unique and cutting-edge G-Vectoring Control technology and a host of i-ACTIVSENSE advanced safety technologies such as Adaptive LED Lights (ALH), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) and Smart City Brake Support (SCBS R), the All-New CX-5 packs in pure driving pleasure, unparalleled comfort, and superior safety and environmental performance.

The new CX-5 adopts G-Vectoring Control (GVC), the first technology in Mazda’s new SKYACTIV-VEHICLE DYNAMICS series. By adjusting engine torque in response to steering wheel action, it delivers unified control over lateral and longitudinal acceleration (G) forces and optimises the vertical load on each wheel. It uses engine timing to control chassis dynamics, leading to smoother and more accurate steering inputs. GVC is particularly effective in SUVs which can be prone to generating lateral forces due to their relatively high centre of gravity. All this results in better control for the driver who will be in sync with his vehicle in an intuitive way with every turn of the steering wheel or touch of the throttle. Simply put, the car goes where the driver expects it to go, resulting in increased driver confidence and peace of mind. And both the driver and passengers get to experience a comfortable ride with minimal torso-sway as GVC increases vehicle stability while reducing sideways sliding of the cabin occupants’ bodies. The introduction of GVC is another example of Mazda’s never-ending quest to put the driver as the priority in its design and development stages, and to enhance the Jinba-ittai driving experience.

Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE is a comprehensive suite of safety technologies that employs sophisticated detection devices, and aims to maximise the range of conditions in which the driver can safely operate the vehicle with confidence while minimising the risks that can lead to an accident.

Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE suite of safety technologies comprise the following features:

  • Adaptive LED Headlights (ALH): This offers the driver greater support for recognising potential hazards when driving at night. The system improves night visibility and helps the driver to avoid hazardous situations by combining the use of a new 12-block array Glare-free High Beam that features an adjustable illumination range, and Wide-range Low Beam. The ALH automatically switches from high-beam to low-beam headlights when the vehicle senses traffic.

  • Adaptive Front-lighting system (AFS): AFS promotes safer driving by allowing the driver to see further at intersections or around curves at night. Taking input from the steering angle and vehicle speed, AFS predicts the shape of the road and directs the headlamps’ beam in the direction of the travel path, thus illuminating the path which the vehicle will follow.

  • Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM): This uses rear-mounted radar sensors to detect vehicles in the blind spots behind and to the side, or fast approaching traffic, and alerts the driver through both mirror-mounted warning lights and audible warnings.

  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA): RCTA uses the same sensors as BSM to alert the driver when it detects vehicles approaching from either side while the vehicle is reversing. Warnings come from a flashing indicator in the door mirror and through beeps.

  • Lane-Departure Warning System (LDWS): This senses lane markings on the road surface. When the system predicts departure from the lane, it issues an audible warning that is similar to the noise that a car makes when it runs onto a rumble strip in order to prompt timely steering corrections. The system assesses driver input such as the use of the turn signals to weed out false alarms.

  • Lane-keep Assist System (LAS): A forward sensing camera detects lane markings and assists the steering to keep the driver in lane. The system also alerts the driver when it senses an unintended lane departure by vibrating the steering wheel or through an audible alarm. When the system detects intentional lane change through the use of turn signals, steering assistance is deactivated and no warnings are given. The system operates at speeds above approximately 60km/h.

  • Smart City Brake Support (SCBS R): Ultrasonic sensors that are mounted on the rear bumper enable the SCBS R to detect vehicles and obstacles that are behind the car when it is reversing at a speed of between approximately 2 and 8km/h. If an object is detected, the system automatically applies the brakes.

  • Advanced Smart City Brake Support (Advanced SCBS): With the high-performance forward sensing camera, Advanced SCBS detects vehicles and pedestrians in front of the vehicle and automatically applies the brakes to help avoid collisions and mitigate collision damage while driving between approximately 4 and 80 km/h (sensing a vehicle ahead) or between approximately 10 and 80 km/h (sensing a pedestrian).

  • Dynamic Stability Control & Traction Control System (DSC/TCS): This uses steering angle, wheel and yaw sensors to optimally transfer power to the pavement, thus mitigating rollover risk.

  • Antilock Brake System (ABS): Antilock brakes pulsate brakes to ensure uniform, controllable and consistent braking action.

  • Driver Attention Alert (DAA): DAA uses information such as the steering wheel angle, vehicle speed and output from the forward sensing camera to assess the driver’s condition and help prevent accidents that can be caused by fatigue or lowered alertness.
